Starting from Hippowdon, judged the strongest, this concept reproduces an old-generation popular combination (Ground type + Flying axis + Steel helper); the Flying axis was set as Staraptor, which newly gained a Mega Evolution this season. A Ghost/Steel helper was placed as the Steel partner, and to cover the weakness against Rain teams and Marine Freeze-type opponents, Marine Freeze itself was adopted; finally, a face-to-face-oriented Psychic/Fire Mega was added to complete the team.
Hippowdon has the No. 1 selection rate, and properly controlling the timing of Earthquake and Yawn is the key point that determines the difficulty of piloting. Staraptor is a mind-game Pokémon whose choice between Close Combat and Brave Bird splits depending on whether the opponent hides a Ghost type, but once the Ghost counter is removed, it turns into the strongest sweeper. Marine Freeze plays a supporting role of safely bringing in Hippowdon through face-to-face manipulation, while the face-to-face-oriented Mega plays a finishing role of checking the opponent when they set up Stealth Rock/walls.
