Mega Charizard Y is weak to Garchomp and Stealth Rock, but if it connects even once it leads straight to victory, so it was made the special ace, with a matchup-oriented Focus Sash Garchomp and a sand-wall Hippowdon forming the core. To this were added a physical Mega tuned mainly around High Jump Kick, a Primarina that takes on Trick-user opponents, and a matchup-oriented Mimikyu to complete the team.
For Charizard Y, the key move is to wipe out physical walls in one hit with Overheat, then accelerate with Nitro Charge to keep pushing firepower from a Speed advantage. Choosing among Earthquake, Yawn, Stealth Rock, and Slack Off is tricky for Hippowdon, but when handled well it acts as the glue that can respond to every opponent, and it rarely leads off, instead being coordinated from the back. The structure has the three matchup-oriented attackers — Garchomp, the physical Mega, and Mimikyu — take charge of finishing with stacking moves such as Swords Dance.
