The team started from the concept of pairing an axis Mega, whose base stats become excellent after accelerating, with screen setup, and adopted an Ice type that can use Aurora Veil as its fixed partner. Judging that setting up screens after securing an early numbers advantage and an information advantage is strong, it chose Mimikyu, which has a safe start, and a Fire/Ghost helper as lead candidates, and adopted a Water-type Mega as the closer.
The basic play is for the axis Mega to get past the opponent behind screens using stacking moves like Swords Dance, then after building up acceleration twice, switch out to fight with the Pokémon that follows. Besides Aurora Veil, the Ice-type partner also checks stacking/confusion plays with Encore and Misty Terrain, while the Water-type Mega combines Trick Room + Curse to aim for an upset against slow teams. Failing to respond pre-emptively to the opponent's fast checks (such as Choice Scarf users) lowers screen efficiency, so choosing the lead and managing switch timing are important.
