After experimenting with new Megas, the team ultimately settled back into a classic, hand-familiar physical/special wall structure from an earlier generation. With Garchomp as the fixed partner, on top of the three great walls — Mega Slowbro (physical wall), Snorlax (special wall), and Toxapex (cushion) — a special attacker, Mega Scovillain, was added to relieve the walls' burden with burn damage, compensating for pure stall's lack of firepower.
For the receiving/defensive selection, the Mega (Scovillain/Slowbro) + Snorlax + Toxapex combination comfortably handles opponents that have no answer for it, while the offensive selection of Scovillain + Garchomp + Hisuian Samurott forces a breakthrough of walls. Toxapex uses Regenerator to break the Sleep+Yawn loop and is strong in an environment with many Fire-type Megas, and the Choice Scarf Hisuian Samurott covers the team's remaining weak points such as Gholdengo, Delphox, and Mega Gengar. Annihilape, Gholdengo, Mega Blastoise, and Substitute+Roost Dragonite were named as especially tricky opponents.
